Frequently Asked Questions

I have a lot of ideas I want write about, but what’s the best way to do it? An op-ed piece, a blog, a book, or something else? Can you help me choose the right option?

Yes! Your best option will depend on a lot of factors—your content, your target audience, the intended purpose of your written piece, and more. I’m happy to explore all of these with you and help you decide what’s right for you. Contact me to schedule a free, no-obligation consultation.

How are projects priced?

I set fixed prices for fixed-length projects (such as manuscript editing and copywriting for press releases and blogs), based on the estimated number of hours involved. Unless there’s serious mission creep, I generally stick to these initial estimates, even if we go over a bit. Open-ended projects such as coaching and book development engagements are priced on an hourly basis; ghostwriting projects are priced on a per-word basis. For larger or longer projects, I’m happy to take payment in installments. For sample 2023 pricing, see this example sheet.

Do you accept royalty-sharing arrangements in lieu of a fee?

I do not engage in royalty-sharing arrangements. The publishing industry is wildly unpredictable, and there’s absolutely no guarantee that any book—no matter how compelling, well-written, or important—will attract a wide enough audience to make significant royalties.

Can I ask for or make revisions after you’ve worked on my project?

Absolutely! It’s common for clients to remember something they wanted to include once they actually see their project in print.  I’m happy to go through up to three rounds of review – I’ve found that revisions after that tend to be driven by second-guessing and overthinking rather than a clear-headed vision of what’s best for you and your readers. And since it’s your project, you get the final say in what you want to include or leave out.

How long will it take to complete my project?

Turnaround times will depend on the nature of your project. To give you a rough idea of what to expect, short editing projects can take as little as a day, short copywriting projects (such as press releases) require about a week, book editing projects two or three weeks, while large ghostwriting projects can require several months. If you have a rush job, I can prioritize it for an additional fee.

I want to make sure you’re the right fit for my project before I sign on. Can I see some of your past work?

Absolutely! Choosing the right partner for your project is a deeply personal decision, and it’s important to choose someone whose style and vision aligns with yours.
